General Chagres Smelter Division

Located in Region V in the municipality of Catemu, 100 kilometers north of Santiago and at 400 meters above sea level.

The smelter’s productive process (copper concentrate fusion) is carried out using the modern Flash furnace, a technology known for its low emission levels, making the smelter an environmental leader in Chile’s mining industry.

In 2006 the Division produced 173,413 tonnes of copper anodes and 499,243 tonnes of sulfuric acid.

The Chagres Smelter Division has approximately 500 workers, including company employees and external contractors for operations and projects.

The Smelter Optimization project concluded successfully in 2006, enabling the division to boost copper production and reduce air emissions
