2021 - The Musonoïe Global SAS Mining Company, COMMUS, has broken
the record of all Chinese-invested companies in the speed of implementation
of its factory. This observation was made by a delegation of
journalists from Kinshasa on mission to these mining companies based in
Kolwezi. Indeed, the first phase of the mining and metallurgical
project began in June 2015. The plant was fully commissioned in June
2017 and reached production standards in the same year.
The first phase of the project adopted the combined “ flotation enrichment +
pyrometallurgy” process , with an expected annual production of 50,000
tonnes of copper. The second phase of the project, for its part,
concerned the recycling of the company's copper and cobalt in March 2018.
Trial production took place on December 26, 2018. The first batch of
copper cathode was produced on April 15, 2019, and the production reached
the standard in September 2019. The total investment in Phase II is
approximately $210 million, with planned annual production of 40,000 tonnes
of copper and 1,500 tonnes of cobalt.
It is worth remembering that COMMUS is a subsidiary of Zijin, a well-listed
group on the stock exchange whose projects are spread across 14 provinces
and regions of China. This group specializes in the production of
gold, copper, zinc and silver among the top three in China. This
mining company currently has an annual production capacity of approximately
120,000 tonnes of copper and 1,500 tonnes of cobalt.
According to the executives of this company, Compagnie Minière de Musonoïe
Global SAS always attaches great importance to the health and safety of
employees. On the environmental side, after several years of efforts,
the total area of green plants planted on the embankments of the basin and
embankments is approximately 400,000 square meters and in the factory and
the residence area, the coverage rate of the areas green has exceeded 90%
and the total area is about 100,000 square meters. Concerning the
management of agents, thanks to training and evaluation, a group of
Congolese executives were promoted and improved each year.
All of the company's business licenses are fully
compliant, strictly comply with the Mining Code, Mining Regulations, Labor

ethics, such as prohibiting the hiring of children. At the same time,
the company fully respects the fundamental rights, customs, religious
beliefs of Congolese employees. According to the Human Resources
Director of this company, Polydore Kibondo, the company has contributed more
than 12,680,000 USD on a social level. This social contribution
concerns, among other things, the construction of a pumping station for the
town of Kolwezi, the construction of civil water wells and support
installations, the repair and regular and free maintenance of the water
supply system. civil water, free emergency repair of the civil
electrification network.
In terms of electricity, according to the same
source, COMMUS Sas intervened in improving the energy supply in Kolwezi, by
providing the Government with the necessary equipment to arrange the supply
conditions.
We also note one-off social assistance donations
such as donations for the victims of Goma, an adequate financial donation
against Covid-19, as well as interventions in terms of school fees for
certain children from poor families in the city of Kolwezi and surrounding
areas.
