Ausmelt will provide technology for a new copper smelting plant to
be built by Chifeng Jinjian Copper Group (Jinjian) at Chifeng, Inner
Mongolia in China. Design work will
start immediately. The smelter will be designed to treat 480,000 tonnes a
year of copper concentrates to produce around 120,000 tonnes a year of
copper contained in matte. This
contract covers provision of copper smelting technology, engineering and
commissioning services and equipment supply.
Ausmelt will work closely with Jinjian and the Tongling Nonferrous Metals
Corporation on the project. Tongling Nonferrous Metals Corporation has been
successfully using Ausmelt Technology in its own copper operations for the
past 3 years. The Vice General
Manager of Chifeng Jinjian Copper Group, Mr Hao Jianwei, said: “Following an
extensive study of alternative smelting technologies and suppliers we are
pleased to have the opportunity to expand our operations using Ausmelt
technology. We believe that this cooperation between Jinjian, Ausmelt and
Tongling will produce a successful project for our company.” December 14, 2009 - Yunnan Copper Group Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco), has signed an agreement to fully acquire Chifeng Jinfeng Copper Co. Ltd., a refined copper producer based in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, state media reported on Dec. 14. September 22, 2008 - Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Co., Ltd. announced on September 18 that it had gained approval from shareholder meeting to take a 51 percent stake in Chifeng Jinjian Copper Co., Ltd. August 7, 2008 - Chinese major copper producer Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Co., Ltd. says today that it plans to buy a 51% stake in Chifeng Jinjian Copper Co., Ltd. from five natural persons. Price of the stake will be subject to later evaluation. After the deal, the company will become the majority shareholder of the target company. Based in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jinjian Copper registered CNY 450 million in capital and is capable of producing 80,000 tons of copper cathodes, 240,000 tons of industrial sulfuric acid and 100,000 tons of copper slag. August 6, 2008 - China's Tongling Nonferrous Metals 000630.SZ said on Wednesday it planned to buy a 51 percent stake in a copper smelter based in Inner Mongolia for 450 million yuan ($65.7 million).Tongling, China's second-largest copper producer, said the purchase of Chifeng Jinjian Copper Co would increase the company's copper cathode output, helping expand its market share.Jinjian can produce 80,000 tonnes of copper cathode a year, Tongling said in a statement.Copper smelters enjoyed fat profit margins two years ago, spurring a flood of new investment that tightened copper concentrate markets and drove down processing fees, hurting current margins just as a slowing world economy dented demand.China is now urging its biggest smelters buy out smaller rivals and consolidate the industry, a policy that has had more success for copper than for other metals. |
