News | March 15, 2009 - With six other companies, EFIC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU)
to establish a new plant - Egyphos - to produce phosphate fertilizers in
Egypt. The new plant will be established in the city of Edfu in two phases,
the first of which has a total investment cost of US$680 mn (split US$300 mn
and US$380 mn in equity and debt, respectively) and an authorized capital of
US$1.5 bn. As per our 1-1 meeting with EFIC’s CEO on March 3, 2009, El Nasr
Mining Company will provide phosphate rocks at preferential prices to the
new DAP plant; thus, Egyphos is expected to have low raw materials cost;
accordingly, EFIC’s investment income is expected to improve. March 8, 2010 - EgyPhos (Egyptian Company for Phosphatic & Compound Fertilizers) is a consortium of government and private companies seeking to develop a new Phosphatic Fertilizer Complex in Egypt. WorleyParsons has been awarded the Bankable Feasibility Study for phase one of the project which will be carried out in Melbourne with support from the Cairo office. Phase one includes a 2250 MTPD Sulphuric Acid Plant, a 750 MTPD Phosphoric Acid Plant and two granulation units with a Triple Super Phosphate and a Di-ammonium / Mono-ammonium Phosphate production capacity. Elemental sulphur will be imported to support the production while ammonia will be supplied from the consortium partners existing plants and phosphate rock from existing mines. Phase two involves doubling the production capacity of sulphuric acid, an additional unit for DAP/MAP and other fertilizer products, additional shipping and handling facilities and, depending on local availability of Natural Gas, 1000 MTPD Ammonia and 600 MTPD Urea plants. |
