General

The joint-stock company FOSFA with headquarters in Breclav-Poštorná is the only producer of phosphoric acid and phosphates in the Czech Republic. The plant has a long-term tradition which began in 1884 when The Schram Chemical Factory started production of sulphuric acid and superphosphate. During the years 1887 - 1916 a number of new products - Disodium Phosphate (DSP), sulphuric acid concentrate, crystalline soda, molasses feeds, glue, rosin and turpentine oil - widened the production scale.
In the thirties (1931-1936) started the production of phosphoric acid from phosphates and sulphuric acid and its further processing into sodium phosphates. In the year 1945 The Schram Chemical factory was nationalized.
After the World War II. (in the years 1945 - 1978) there were built new facilities for the production of phosphoric acid extract, sulphuric acid and phosphates. In the next years (1978 - 1985) began the processing of yellow phosphorus and the production of thermal phosphoric acid. At the same time the new products as Dicalcium Phosphate in feed quality (DCP), Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) and liquid fertilisers emerged.

In 1990 the joint -stock company FOSFA was set up by state and in the year 1994 it was privatized.
During the years 1996-1997 FOSFA invested about 200 mil. Kc on elimination of the ecological damage from the past.
In the last decade of the century the product range was further widened. Among the new articles developed and produced in FOSFA are: detergents, hydroponic fertiliser Folinour, aluminium phosphate Alufos and food additives for meat and dairy industries.
