| Owner | Hindustan Zinc Limited | ![]() |

| Location | 14 km from Udaipur, Rajasthan, India | |
| Background | Hindustan Zinc
Limited was incorporated from the erstwhile Metal Corporation of India on
10th January 1966 as a Public Sector Undertaking. In April 2002, Sterlite
Industries (India) Limited made an open offer for acquisition of shares of
the company consequent to the disinvestment of Government of India’s stake
(26%) including management control to Sterlite and pursuant to the
regulations of SEBI Regulations 1997 acquired additional 20% of shares from
public. In August 2003, Sterlite Industries acquired additional shares to
the extent of 18.92% of the paid up capital from Government of India (GOI). The Zinc business of Vedanta is managed within Hindustan Zinc Limited. HZL is India’s only integrated zinc company, operating from mine to finished metal and supplied around 73% of India’s zinc requirements in 2005-06. At the base of the company is the Rampura Agucha mine with its low cost and consistently high grade ore. |

	- Metso will deliver four Peracidox™ scrubbers to
Hindustan Zinc to minimize sulfur dioxide emissions at their plants. The
scrubbers will be installed at the sulfuric acid plants at the company’s
zinc smelters in Chanderiya and Debari in India.Metso has delivered numerous
Peracidox™ scrubbers around the world. The ones to be delivered to Hindustan
Zinc have been customized for the Indian market to comply with the stringent
local environmental regulations and to meet the needs of the Indian
customers,” says Hannes Storch, Vice President, Metals and Chemical
Processing at Metso.Metso’s Peracidox™ scrubber efficiently reduces the
residual SO2 of tail gases, minimizing emissions. The solution,
an oxidative removal process, features high removal efficiency and ease of
control with minimized mechanical equipment. It can be installed as part of
a new plant or in existing ones. The Peracidox™ scrubber can be used, for
example, to reduce SO2 emissions downstream in existing sulfuric
acid plants. October 22, 2009 - Vedanta Resources Group firm Hindustan Zinc today reported 2.55 per cent decline in its net profit at Rs 934.95 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal over the year-ago period mainly on lower realisations from by-products like sulphuric acid sales. "The positive impact of higher volume, operational efficiencies, lower input cost and rupee depreciation on net profit was more than offset by the sharp decline in the by- product credit realisations" the company said in a statement. In July-September quarter last year, the company had a net profit of Rs 960 crore. Hindustan Zinc, which primarily mines Zinc and Lead and Silver, also produces sulphuric acid and cadamium as by- products in bulk. Rates of sulphuric acid have plummeted to USD 200 a tonne level after hitting a peak of around USD 1,200 per tonne last year, a Hindustan Zinc spokesperson said. |
