| Remarks | Conveniently positioned with access to road, rail and river transportation, Horsehead’s Monaca plant operates as the country’s largest zinc smelter. Located 28 miles north of Pittsburgh, this electrothermic zinc smelter is the result of a company experiment conducted in the 1920's to produce zinc oxide. Since that time, the Beaver County operation has been expanded and modernized. Recognized as the world’s largest user of recycled zinc-bearing materials in its manufacturing process, Horsehead's Monaca location produces primarily zinc metal and zinc oxide. | |

Horsehead are the largest zinc producer in the United States and the
leading manufacturer of value-added zinc products including zinc oxide and
zinc powder. Leading the industry as an integrated producer as well as the
world's largest producer of zinc from recycled sources, Horsehead's
electrothermic smelting facility, the only one of its type in the Western
Hemisphere, provides unique capabilities allowing it to utilize the most
diverse range of zinc-bearing feed materials. Horsehead has operations strategically located throughout the USA with facilities in Bartlesville,OK, Beaumont,TX, Calumet,IL, Monaca,PA, Palmerton,PA and Rockwood,TN. |
