Remarks |
2007 - Acid plant refurbished during major shutdown (ref. 2007 4th quarter
report) - outstanding 'legacy' issues that were holding back production were resolved - Superheater 1B replaced - Both blowers replaced. Original blowers were Scheile - Additional acid storage capacity added - Gas/gas heat exchanger replaced - Emergency shutdown system added to acid plant - Acid plant now able to achieve nameplate capacity |

March 22, 2021 - The Australian mine from which German car maker BMW sources cobalt could have reduced output for the best part of a month after an operational mishap. Glencore’s Murrin Murrin nickel and cobalt mine in Western Australia will operate below full capacity for at least several weeks after the failure of a fan blade in a device that blows air into the mine’s acid plant. German auto manufacturer BMW gets nickel and cobalt from Murrin Murrin in Western. Operations at Murrin Murrin continue at reduced capacity whilst repairs are being completed,” said Glencore in a statement. “There was no explosion and no injuries as a result of this incident.” Glencore did not quantify the impact of the works on mine output, but Murrin Murrin is understood to still be producing at close to 80 per cent of capacity. While there are hopes the works will take less than a month, the exact duration will depend on the ability to get components into WA. September 2011 - Glencore International PLC has made an offer to acquire the remaining shares in Minara Resources Ltd for A$0.87 in cash, valuing the Australian miner at A$1.02 billion. Glencore currently holds 73 percent in Minara. Glencore's offer is scheduled to open on September 28 2011 and will close, unless extended or withdrawn, on October 10 2011. The group said the offer represents a 35.9 percent premium to Minara's closing share price on August 23 2011, being the last trading day before the offer was announced, and a 31.6 percent premium over the volume weighted average share price in the month prior to the announcement. |
