General | In 1972(1351H.), Sarcheshmeh Copper Mines Joint Stock Co of Kerman was established; and, later, in 1976(1355H.), it was renamed as National Iranian Copper Industries Co to involve all copper mines operations throughout the country. This company has numerous responsibilities to do including extraction and utilization of copper mines, production of copper concentrates and manufacturing copper products such as cathodes, slabs, billets and 8mm wire rods. Sarcheshmeh and Miduk mines in Kerman province and Sunegoon mine in eastern Azarbaiejan province are of the most significant copper mines in the country. |

November 15, 2020 - As reported, 205,110 tons of the product has
been produced in the seven-month period of this year. In early May,
four development projects worth 40 trillion rials (about $952.3 million)
were inaugurated in the copper sector of Kerman Province in the southeast of
Iran.President Hassan Rouhani put the projects into operation through video
conference. The projects inaugurated in Khatoon Abad Copper Complex
included increasing the capacity of copper smelting in the complex, building
a copper concentrate storage, construction of a sulfuric acid production
plant, and an oxygen supplying unit. By putting the first project into
operation, the complex’s capacity for producing copper anode rises by 50
percent to 120,000 tons, and the country’s copper smelting capacity rose to
400,000 tons.Iran has seen its copper exports doubled in the past Iranian
calendar year despite a series of bitter sanctions imposed by the United
States aimed at hampering the Islamic Republic’s trade of lucrative metals.
A senior official at Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and
Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Iran’s largest metals and mining holding,
has said that the value of exports for main copper products reached more
than $1 billion over the past year. May 8, 2020 - Four development projects in copper industry were inaugurated in Kerman Province on Thursday by President Hassan Rouhani. A total of 2.21 trillion rials ($13.64 million) have been invested in these projects, which are said to have created more than 200 jobs, IRIB News reported. Located in the southern province's Shahr-e Babak County, the new projects belong to development of Khatunabad Copper Refinery Plant, including the expansion of its copper anode smelting plant, a new copper concentrate storage facility, a sulfuric acid plant and an oxygen plant. The expansion of the copper anode smelting plant has entailed technology improvement and increased copper anode production by 50%, from 80,000 tons to 120,000 tons per year. www.financialtribune.com May 8, 2020 - Four development projects worth 40 trillion rials (about $952.3 million) were inaugurated in the copper sector of Kerman Province in the southeast of Iran on Thursday, Shata news reported. As reported, President Hassan Rouhani put the projects into operation through video conference. The projects inaugurated in Khatoon Abad Copper Complex included increasing the capacity of copper smelting in the complex, building a copper concentrate storage, construction of a sulfuric acid production plant, and an oxygen supplying unit. Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO)’s Managing Director Khodadad Gharibpour was present in the inaugural ceremony of the projects. By putting the first project into operation, the complex’s capacity for producing copper anode rises by 50 percent to 120,000 tons, and the country’s copper smelting capacity rose to 400,000 tons. This project creates jobs for 120 persons. Some 1.11 trillion rials (about $26.4 million) plus $118 million have been invested for this project. The second project, which was the construction of a 60,000-ton storage facility, was implemented at the cost of 158 billion rials (about $3.7 million) plus three million euros, creating jobs for 250 people. The third project is valued at 750 billion rials (about $17.8 million) plus 100 million euros and the fourth one was put into operation at the cost of 192 billion rials (about $4.5 million) plus 31 million euros. Addressing the inaugural ceremony via video conference, Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Reza Rahmani released a report on the projects currently underway in the mining sector. www.tehrantimes.com September 24, 2018 - Finnish mining technology company Outotec will pull out of Iran due to the new U.S. sanctions, a company spokeswoman said on Monday. Outotec, which builds plants, makes equipment and offers services for the metal and mineral processing industries, has a long history in Iran and it remained in the market after the United States instituted sanctions against Iran in 2010. Its business started to normalise after the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, helping Outotec to book orders from National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) and Iran International Engineering Company (IRITEC). The latest sanctions against Iran follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the nuclear deal with Tehran. The new sanctions have forced companies across Europe to reconsider their investments there. Some sanctions against Iran were reimposed in Aug. 6 and some others will take effect on Nov. 4. “We comply with all existing sanctions. Our projects in Iran are already in their final phases ... and we aim to complete our projects before November 4,” spokeswoman Eila Paatela told Reuters in an email. Outotec has not disclosed the overall volume of its business in Iran but it said in May that the market did not represent a significant share of its global sales of about 1.2 billion euros ($1.41 billion). The NICICO order is for two sulphuric acid plants for copper smelters with a value of around 50 million euros. The IRITEC order is for technology worth 45 million euros for an iron plant. |
