General | Urmia petrochemical company (UPC) is located some 30 kilometers southwest of Urmia city and in the vicinity of the road connecting Urmia to mahabad. The complex has been built in a 220 hectares land of which 50 hectares is allocated for the industrial division and 170 hectares for waste water ponds and green space.National petrochemical company (NPC) owns the whole 220 hectare state. Urea, ammonia and sulphuric acid are the raw materials (feedstock) for the complex and the required raw water is supplied from two wells. The complex has two process units for producing crystal melamine and ammonia sulphate with utility and offsite units supplying water, steam, compressed air, nitrogen, and electricity and storage tanks. The UPCconstruction began in 1991 and installation of the process equipment started in 1992 by the Iranian contractor. Construction and erection of the utility and offsite facilities began in September 1994 by Iranian Contractors and with the completion of erection and precommissioning process, the complex went on stream in early 1995. The Urmia petrochemical complex was officially inaugurated in September 1995. | |

2016 - Head of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) launched the
sulfuric acid unit of Urmia Petrochemical Projects in the northwestern city
of Urmia in West Azerbaijan Province on Monday. Marziyeh Shahdaei, who
is also deputy petroleum minister in petrochemical affairs, inaugurated the
project while breaking grounds for construction of a 40,000 t/y potassium
sulfate unit in the facility. She said the unit will become operation
in a 2-year period and is aimed at completing petrochemical value chain in
the region. The unit is being developed with an investment of IRR600b
provided by the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) which
is a private entity. June 18, 2015 - A sulfuric acid production unit has been launched at Urmia Petrochemical Plant in northwest Iran, director of production control at National Petrochemical Company said. Ali-Mohammad Bosaqzadeh said this unit is producing 150 tons a day of sulfuric acid. “Fifty percent of the sulfuric acid production unit’s products would be consumed at Uramia Petchem Plant and the rest would be exported to neighboring provinces and Turkey,” he said. Bosaqzadeh said this unit is currently in appropriate conditions, Shana reported. Urmia Petrochemical Plant’s output is to reach 100,000 tons this year, including 50,000 tons of sulfuric acid, 40,000 tons of ammonium sulfate and 40,000 tons of melamine. |
