The Suez Complex: Put on stream in 1964, the Suez complex is operated by the
Societe El Nasr d'Engrais et d'Industries Chimiques (Semadco). It gets its
methane gas feedstocks from the Ras Shukheir gathering system and from local
oil refineries. The complex has a
capacity of about 300,000 t/y of sulphuric acid, and 450,000 t/y of nitric
acid. The old ammonia unit was replaced and the complex was upgraded in
recent years. As a result, the complex now has a capacity of 300,000 t/y of
sulphuric acid, 450,000 t/y of nitric acid, 365,000 t/y of ammonium nitrate,
and 146,000 t/y of ammonia. (The old ammonium nitrate unit was moved to the
Talkha complex following attacks during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war). |
