EPDM is a M Class Rubber

• Contains a saturated chain of the polymethylene type
• Terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a diene with the residual unsaturated portion of the diene in the side chain

EPDM has good abrasion and tear resistance to a variety of acids and bases.  It is susceptible to attack by oils and is not recommended for applications involving petroleum oils, strong acids or strong bases.   It has exceptionally good weather aging and ozone resistance.  It is fairly good with ketones and alcohols and has an excellent temperature range.  Because it has a negligible absorption rate, it is not susceptible to swelling.  

It is the most economical of the elastomers.

EDPM meets CSA standard B137.0-1973 for toxicity.

General

• Do not use EPDM with petroleum oils

Sulphuric Acid Plants

• Seals and gaskets in the gas cleaning system handling weak sulphuric acid.  Gaskets may be bonded with PTFE or PVDF for maximum corrosion allowance.
• Plate heat exchanger gaskets
