Fluorsid S.p.A., established in 1969, based in Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy), is a World leading manufacturer of inorganic fluorochemicals for the aluminium industry, with an annual capacity of over 100,000 tonnes of aluminium fluoride and synthetic cryolite.  Fluorsid is also one of the World's foremost producers of anhydrite for the building industry, the largest Italian supplier of synthetic gypsum to the domestic cement industry and an important producer of sulphuric acid, with an actual capacity of 150,000 tonnes and a co-production of 35 GWh per year of electric power and a planned expansion to 300,000 tonnes and 80 GWh per year expected by 1Q/2013.  Fluorsid is a privately owned company, employing 130 people directly and more than 250 subcontractors. Fluorsid owns 100% of British Fluorspar Limited, the sole fluorspar producer in UK; 100% of ICIB S.p.A., the Italian main supplier of hydrofluoric acid in solution; a majority share of SFM S.A., a Swiss company specialized in the production of magnesium powders and raspings, and an important minority share of Laminazione Sottile S.p.A., a leading company producing semi-finished rolled aluminium products.
