MOLYMET roasts molybdenum concentrates to produce technical molybdenum
oxide, molybdenum oxide briquettes, ferromolybdenum, high purity molybdenum
chemicals and all the rhenium products. Yearly roasting capacity at this
location is 46 million pounds of molybdenum contained in concentrates
(approximately 43,000 MT of concentrates per year), distributed in three
roaster furnaces. Output gases from the furnaces are cleaned in a scrubbing plant and then converted to sulfuric acid, which is sold in the domestic market. These two plants are an important part of MOLYMET's efforts in taking care of the environment. This complex is also equipped with a leaching plant, which allows copper removal from the products. The copper is then recovered at an EW plant as high quality copper cathodes. |

General |
MOLYMET, a shareholder-owned Chilean corporation listed on the Santiago
Stock exchange, is processing molybdenum concentrates since 1964. The
Corporation has production facilities in Chile, Mexico, Belgium and Germany. Molybdenum concentrates are treated at the plants for the production of technical molybdic oxide, ferromolybdenum, high purity molybdenum chemicals and molybdenum metal powders. These products are supplied to the steel, catalysts and specialty metal manufacturing industries worldwide. Rhenium is recovered as a by-product of processing molybdenum concentrates and is further refined for use in turbine engine components and other industrial products. |
