Saarbergwerke AG, a public sector company whose
activities included hard coal mining, the marketing and trading of hard
coal, the production of coke, power generation, district heating,
environmental protection, trading and services (including transport
protection and oil distribution) and rubber manufacturing. Saarbergwerke AG
was jointly owned by the Federal Republic of Germany (74 %) and the Land of
Saarland (26 %), and in 1997 it operated three underground hard coal mines
with a total annual production of 6,6 million tce. November 13, 1997 RAG AG notified the Commission under Article 66(1) of the ECSC Treaty that it intended to acquire the entire share capital of Saarbergwerke AG and Preussag Anthrazit GmbH. |
