The evolution of acid plant design has been more about materials of construction than anything else. From the moment an acid plant is first started it begins to corrode and its days are numbered. The proper selection of materials will prevent premature failure of equipment and minimize plant outages. However, superior materials of construction come with added initial capital cost so it is always a trade off between economics, reliability and service life.
